My mission
As a nutritionist, I’m committed to showing up for my clients to the best of my ability. In my view, part of that responsibility involves challenging the oppressive systems that negatively affect our individual and collective wellness by marginalizing certain people and by creating barriers to accessing necessities like healthcare, safe housing, fresh food, and clean air and water.
I see this mission as inseparable from the work I do helping individual clients improve their health, and I subscribe to a truly holistic vision of health and wellness that not only recognizes and cultivates an individual’s capacity for healing and growth, but also acknowledges the necessity of collective healing and liberation.
I strive to create an inclusive, trauma-aware, client-centered business with anti-oppressive, anti-racist, and abolitionist values—one that acknowledges and seeks to abolish the systemic inequities and injustices that so deeply affect the physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing of us all.
Core values
My core values include:
Social justice & anti-racism - challenging my own biases as well as the injustices perpetuated by systems of power (including systemic racism and white supremacy) in order to redistribute resources more equitably across society
Holism - understanding that everything is deeply interconnected and must be considered in its larger systemic context—i.e. as an ecosystem rather than isolated parts, whether we’re talking about the human body or in a broader context, such as social determinants of health
Inclusivity & accessibility - serving a diverse array of clients from a variety of backgrounds and economic circumstances
Transparency - being forthright, accountable, and ethical in all interactions and endeavors
Intersectionality & solidarity - acknowledging that our various overlapping and interconnecting social categorizations (such as race, class, and gender) play a large role in determining the systemic barriers we may face, and thus necessitate mutual support of one another
Community care - using the power, privilege, or resources available to me to contribute to the wellbeing of my wider community
Trauma-aware care - recognizing the role that trauma can play in an individual’s health and wellbeing and the myriad ways it can manifest (as well as the necessity of specially trained trauma-informed providers—while I am not one myself, I provide referrals when appropriate)
Non-judgment - holding space for my clients without imposing my own values or beliefs on them
Commitments
My commitments include:
A self-selecting sliding scale fee structure in order to make my one-on-one services more inclusive and accessible
Providing discounted and no-cost mentorship sessions to BIPOC and trans folks starting out in functional nutrition or looking to get into the field (email me if interested!)
Creating free and low-cost resources as a more accessible alternative to one-on-one functional nutrition counseling, such as website and social media content, courses, workshops, and a resource library (currently in development – stay tuned for these!)
Soliciting feedback from clients, prospective clients, and my audience so that I can continue to improve my offerings and best serve my community. You’re welcome to email me any feedback, including about your experience working with me, my approach, my online presence, my website’s accessibility, etc. You’re also welcome to submit anonymous feedback here.
